The challenge: fragmented supply chains and limited control

As Europe’s largest port, Rotterdam is a crucial gateway, yet logistics operations are still hindered by:

Lack of real-time visibility and data sharing between chain partners

Paper-based documents like CMRs causing delays and inefficiencies

Disconnected IT systems and a lack of standardization

Redundant actions and waiting times in container handling

The solution: one shared data framework across the chain

As part of the Dutch Digital Infrastructure for Logistics (DIL) program, supported by the National Growth Fund, we are building a scalable and secure digital logistics foundation based on the BDI (Basic Data Infrastructure) model:

Digital Freight Documents (eCMR): Standardized transport data and digital signatures, accessible to all authorized stakeholders.

Authorization and Identity via the Association Register: Ensures only trusted parties access relevant data, with full governance and control.

Dataspaces and System Interoperability: Information exchange without central storage, preserving data ownership and compliance.

Automation and Validation: Real-time insight into planning, arrivals, deviations and compliance — including automated document validation.

Where we make impact

Faster and predictable handling
Real-time coordination between carriers, terminals and receivers reduces waiting times.
Support for modal shift and sustainability goals
Better planning and data transparency make it easier to shift to rail and inland waterway transport.
Operational efficiency
Less paperwork, fewer errors, and more focus on value creation through automation.
Improved collaboration across the supply chain
From siloed operations to data-driven collaboration, based on trust and governance.
